been busy today. Had to get up real early to do some car show stuff. said bye to blue car. got stuck in traffic for a few hours got home. continued the work on the 00. I may have noted that my 00 was rear-ended in january by an idiot with the heater on real high and was drowsy then drove his truck excuse me, unregistered and uninsured truck into my rear bumper
yeah like insurance and registration is so overrated anyway. Since this was the case I had to go through my insurance and their uninsured motorist insurance i carry. The woman who was assigned to my case was very nice and let me know i would be covered up to $3500 to fix my car. The car did not look that bad but it was bad. See, not so bad right?
it does not look that bad from here but this car was previously repaired and i had to get it done by a body shop because of court and insurance. If you look closely, the rear lip was installed with sheet metal screws. Long, 4 inch sheet metal screws. If you also look closely you can see that not only was it installed with screws but it was tucked (fucked) up too high onto the bumper. This part sucked as this was a new unpainted part with the tape on it and the body shop insisted that it needs screws for install. Sadly, the crash cost me my bumper. The sides were popped out
the worst part of the crash is that the crash which happened the year before used one of my yellow rear bumpers so my supply of yellow body parts is dwindling. This one was unfixable because broken underneath too, almost all the way through the bumper part
for real doe, look at one of the screws hanging out there holding the lip on. ffs. You can see the cracked bumper and how bad it was. The idiot who hit me almost pushed me into the car in front of me but told me that my car was not that bad and his brother who works at a body shop can fix. Ummm, no. That is not how this works.
so i supplied the body shop with another bumper and they said they could fix the lip. They did fix the lip and the repairs looked great but they did not install the lip insisting that it needed screws and that the tape would not hold it on and it kept coming off. That may not have been true because it does not look like it was installed or attempted to be installed. I have been meaning to install it since the repair was not complete and my car looked strange without the rear. The lip was warped from being installed wrong and then being left on the paint rack for months after the repair and repaint. I have been trying to let it relax on its own so i can install but i need to install now so no more waiting as that was not working anyway. I lined everything up then went to work with the heat gun and went through many many cycles to get the lip to fit again and look like it is still good. It really took a lot of finessing to get it to go. Here is what it looks like right now because it is late so i should get some sleep since i have to help two people with their cars tomorrow
never mind that i used my recycle bin to hold the bumper but it is perfect height for this sort of work and it is stable. Now to let it rest before reinstall. I need to wash the car now so i will put this back on after i wash it to give the tape enough time to properly set.
ps. the body kit does use screws to hold it in place but they are used under the body kit on a part of the bumper edge you will not see. I'll try to remember to take a pic of the screws tomorrow. I may also put a screw on each end since the lip has been repaired previously and was warped in the process. It wont really look out of place as it will be in the wheel well area.
