I found out my valve cover is leaking oil into the spark plug valley. After pulling the valve cover and removing the gasket I found that the factory finish is chipped at the mating surface of the gasket, and the grove the gasket fits into has debris in it. I washed the valve cover in Dawn with a wire brush and removed the debris. but looking for a way to fix the uneven mating surface for the gasket.

You can try "spot putty" used for minor body damage...

I had to remove corrosion on the positive battery terminal and then charge the battery. I then drove it in the rain to wash off the dust from sitting in the garage.

You can try "spot putty" used for minor body damage... I think you misunderstood, the metal isn't damaged, the powdercoat is chipped just enough for a really slow oil leak.

I would still try the spot putty; a little lite sanding and the surface would be flat...

Over the weekend the wifes green Z got new: steering rack sway bar bushings power steering pump PCV end lower control arms ES rear LCS bushings sway bar end links fixed a trans cooler leak/weep
i forgot new steering rack bushings but have orderd some. kinda sorta want to swap out her balljoints/tie rods before she gets an alignment now, tie rods were tight still but ball joints are starting to get loose. drives straight and wheel is only a touch cocked so not a big deal at the moment.
the big deal would be when i finished everything up i noticed her lower radiator house is swelling and getting ready to burst and i dont have any on hand. so i ended up ordering a few of those too. hope hers holds on a few days till i can swap it

Wifes car got a new lower rad hose and coolant yesterday. Got 5 new lower rad hoses on closeout from rockauto for like $5 a piece so got a few more on deck now.
Putting in new steering rack bushings today because i forgot them last weekend with the big job. Were gonna leave it for an alignment after she gets off work tomorrow

Scraped the chipped powdercoat off the gasket seating area of the valve cover of my 2000, and installed a new gasket, took the spoiler off the trunk and re-sealed it to the trunk lid with RTV (Trunk leak fixed!)

lol, i went to look at a car today which turned out to be a car i had traded with a tzx2 member over 10 years ago. I sold it with about 130k on it and now it haz double its mileage on it. while looking at it i noticed a lot of things wrong with it then i started remembering a few of the cars which i had put back together for people and this one started looking more like one of those. Turns out i was correct with that assessment as this was one. The person i sold it to was real flaky so i was not surprised to see the registration behind. After talking with current owner i was informed the car was non-op registration status. sadly, the engine is taken apart with the head in the trunk all disassembled. The way the car was taken apart is a sad sight too. I can fix it again but it is a sad thing to see how it looks after all this time. It was real clean when i was done with it and now it has a rear seat with a bite taken out of it, wheels painted black, bald tires ugly fog lights installed, ugly headlights installed, ugly seat covers installed, headliner coming apart.... the owner does not want too much for it as it has been sitting like that for over a year. I let him know i would pay his full asking price if he could deliver it to me so he is thinking of a way to do so. I'll give it a couple days to see what he comes up with. If he can do this then i will have a white car again

ps. the area i live in gets really high winds. Today the winds were even higher speeds than usual and somehow blew the hood open of the grey car in the yard. Unfortunately, the hood blowing open ended up bending the corners of the hood, the hinges bent and the windshield broken. Damn, because I was in the process of replacing the wheels/tires and fixing the ac to ready for sale. Now need to fix the hood and the windshield too

That's some mighty wind, ZX2 hoods aren't exactly light it was a sad sight to see. the hood was stuck in the position as it bent the hinges for it when it happened. the winds here do get real high before it rains or snows. I cut all the grass and all the clippings are gone but so is my windshield It has been raining and snowing locally today too

Put a battery in the 98 and verified wiring is good for TPS. Didnt let fuel pump run cuz this gas has been sitting for like 6 years now so didn't want to run that through everything. Pulled the SVTF intake manifold and found that it needed a little grinding in the corner to get the lower manifold in and out with the alternator still in place (I put it in without the alt and put an alt in afterwards). So got it all out and will have it all ready to install in silver1 when I have a weekend to verify all is good before committing it back to daily duty

it looks okay here but it only looks okay. the body panels were all put on wrong with wrong fasteners and the wrong headlight header panel installed. It even had a broken bumper underneath the cover
not only that but one of the headlights was separated
no turns were installed
so after fixing the head gasket and getting the car running again i put a white bumper on it
then i put a white hood on it
i cant find the pic but bringing home the hood mean driving to a yard without a hood then installing it onto the car i took so i can bring it home. I used the gold car to bring home the hood but as mentioned, i cant find the pic of it
when the car left, the engine looked like this
the blue valve cover is still with the car. Based on the way the car looks now it's amazing it has lasted these past 10-11 years. It's definitely going to take a lot of cleaning to get it nice again so I will have to take the interior completely out to clean it the way i want it. Already have a plan for this car so it should go quickly once i get it. Will probably start a worklog on it once i get it

I got the valve cover leak fixed by scraping the remaining powdercoat off the seating area for the gasket and applying a thin layer of RTV on the seating area of the valve cover.
Then...
The other day I took my daily driver (2004 Buick Lasabre Custom) to get it inspected, it needed tie rod ends, a motor mount, and 2 new tires (due to nails).
I took it to a friend that ownes a shop (because he will let me make payments and he charges less than where I got it inspected).
When the Buick was done, I started my ZX2 to go pick up the Buick and had no power steering.
So I popped the hood and the serpentine belt was just laying in the engine compartment beside the engine hanging on the cruise control motor.
Turns out the serpentine tensioner pulley broke off the engine block!
Has anyone else had that happen??? The belt is undamaged, and I can turn the remaining pulleys by hand easily (with the obvious exception of the crank pulley).

so annoyed. I'm in the middle of finishing up the parts list for the 99 i am putting back together and i come across this now i need to see if i have another crank to fix this or if i can figure out another engine to put into the 99. I have an extra 99 i can source the engine from with low miles but that just means i will have to fix another 99 once i get this one done. That may not be too bad as i was planning on 5speed swap anyway for the other 99. I just don't want to have too many cars apart at once and try to keep track of everything

oh noez!!! fuel pump decided to go bad while driving on the interstate i pulled over and off the interstate with no tools I got the car started again and drove it enough to get it off the road again. The got it started again after it sat for 30 minutes and got it to sputter all the way into my driveway, whew. thankfully, a couple weeks ago i made an order for many fuel pumps since they were all on sale so i had a lot to choose from to fix this right away yay. I was able to put on 200 miles today with no lingering issue of fuel starvation. Woot, woot, perfect timing buying parts for the win

A small tool kit in the trunk; the question is what spare parts to have in the trunk as well?

A small tool kit in the trunk; the question is what spare parts to have in the trunk as well? the tool bag i carry with me was in the trunk of the other car i am working on that day. I carry just about every tool for the zx2 issues which pop up.
As for parts, I carry extra plugs, wires, timing belt, pulleys, water, oil and some various bolts. Unfortunately, those parts dont install so easy without the toolbag

had the bumpers off the car today for some stuff so decided to clean this up just awful. the neglect it does look better all cleaned up. Now i can be at ease knowing it is clean when i put the bumper back on. had the front bumper off today as well. Here is a pic from last year did not look so bad with those wheels on it. They distracted the view from the headlights. I decided to take the bumper off to change out the lights to clean up the front a little up close with the replacements from my 98 really show a huge difference in appearance. They look so much better. I feel bad i took them off my 98 but this car needed them more looks far better with the lights on. I could see well enough with the other lights but with these ones the difference can be seen
