yay, all done with 5speed swap and rear disc swap just need to make a shift boot and find a knob to use. Will look for a knob in my stuff tonight and make a boot while Im at it. tomorrow will fix the passenger power window while i have the interior apart. Will probably vacuum the car out and put a floor mat in it I think you posted it before, but I can't remember....whats your recipe for making a stock shifter a short shifter? I'll have a stock shifter whenver I put the S/R B&M in Silver2 that I got from you I may experiment with Thanks!

Will probably vacuum the car out and put a floor mat in it I think you posted it before, but I can't remember....whats your recipe for making a stock shifter a short shifter? I'll have a stock shifter whenver I put the S/R B&M in Silver2 that I got from you I may experiment with Thanks! use b&m shifter as size template use a grinder or cutting disc to make a straight line on the shifter end. Doing this will allow you to keep the orientation of the shifter bottom with the curvature of the upper part of the shifter. Dont take off paint first, easier to use grinder on the paint. The factory paint will come off after setting it in place with a wire brush if you cut the bottom part closer to the ball, right at the taper of the shifter end you will have a nice spot to insert a rod into both ends and spread them apart to equal the distance of the lower part of the b&m shifter once i do this part and get the spacing the way i want it, i then tack the part together. I use the rod inside as the beginning of making this part solid as compared to the hollow the factory produced. This little bit of weight adds a little balance to the shifter I have a wire feed mig i use and use that to fill in the gap with wire until it is slightly oversized. Sometimes i leave it like this and other times i grind it down. It does not matter too much because under the rubber boot and if repainted, it will be mostly moisture proof and not subject to rust. for the upper part. I cut it a little high on the top part of the shifter and smaller on the part which the knob connects to. I do this because if breaks, will still have usable shifter. This is an issue teamzx2 members were having because they did not know how to weld and did not get enough penetration plus they put it at the stress point before the fulcrum so it was weak point with bad weld so it came apart they also tried to use the part they cut out of the top part to use on the bottom part. Of course it came apart because different widths and not good penetration. I have been doing this since i had my 98 way back when new with no issue. In the case of the picture provided, i make the top part a touch higher than the b&m because it is at this height i find the most comfortable and can use fingertips to shift the shifter with little effort and little stress on the shifter housing. Win-win The top part also does not need to be ground down to make smooth if the welds are clean enough. This little bump from the welds will help keep the shift boot up and in place during use without the need for zip ties underneath. while searching for the installed pic into my daughter's car i found the pics i was looking for. I will put them in order. Hope this helps

finished 03 5 speed swap, rds completed and fixed a lot of other things wrong with the car. - broken window regulator passenger side - install correct door hardware and clips - broken passenger tail light - bad tail light bulbs - fix abs so abs light goes off. 5speed swap axles i had were not abs. abs was a surprise issue because did not realize car was abs. Had to locate two abs axles for this. Found one on the white car and one on the grey car. Swapped those out and got the abs light to go off and stay off. One axle had bad boots so popped off tone ring and installed onto other axle with good boots. - bleed brakes again because used parts for rds - provide black floormats - provide new set of pedal pads had to fix these things now that the car is running great with the 5peed. Thankfully the 5speed this person had for the swap was from an 03 so it is correct for the car and it should have the upgraded shift fork. Long day for an unusually hot day but got a lot done and car is done

Drove the 2001Black to the Ford dealer for the tranny rebuild.
The Clutch Masters aluminum fly wheel arrived in time for me to check fitment on my spare engine (the original engine from Iceracer), it should work.
We'll see...

Went to Ford to offer both the Ford and Mazda tranny parts breakdown to assist them...the service rep started with some double speak..., so you don't want to do the job? No, we do not.
Fortunately, I passed by a new transmission shop the other day. They do actually rebuild transmissions. I gave them the same info I gave Ford and they said fine and drop the car off Friday.

Weird the dealer didn't want to take money and do work.....or is it? They just want to change oil on new junk? Idk...
Anyhow I don't think these transmissions are bad to work on, the other shop shouldn't have any issues

i can't believe it, i got turdbo started today. i had confidence in the engine and the fixes i had done so far. I was just concerned because this car has been fighting me the entire way. It runs well but has turbo tune ecu i have to remove.

any idea who or what kinda tune that actually is?? no idea at all about the tuning done to this. The idle it has may be due to the turbo timer and the injectors flowing again for the first time in a dozen years. It does run smoother now with the nlx2 I have installed in its place

installed new rotors and pads on my 99 at all four corners.
will likely take trans off car to figure out what is making noise in there later today

have not taken off trans yet did pick up a set of polished 03 wheels. One of them looks like it has been repaired before so that part sucks. will have to see how it is with the tire on it. also made some 03 radio adapter wiring harnesses for the box of 03 adapters I found in my storage stuff. Made some premium sound wiring harness adapters while i was at it. will try to get the trans taken off tomorrow if i can find my 10 mm ratchet wrench.

finally decided to take the trans off and look for the source of the noise i did not like. the first thing i had pop up was the needle bearings falling out of this this part sucks because this was changed out last year with new clutch install another thing i noticed was this. Im attaching two pics because this was hard to notice this is the first clutch disc i have had this issue with. The splined section moves in its spot. The clutch disc appears to have even wear on it but this movement could cause the noise just as much as the needle bearing falling out. These things sucked to have to replace but at least the trans went back on the first try

Interesting, what clutch was in that? Never seen that happen before.
I've been driving mine. Stripped that SVTF last week but need to get it out of the shop still. I'll try and get some pics up in it's thread, the parts I'll be using have been mostly absorbed into my shop but it's still quite full

did not post any update on this car because i had to spend another day taking the trans off again turns out the throwout bearing decided to die when reinstalled. No signs of this while apart the first time so had to take off again. Maybe the LUK clutch kit could not handle s/r? i would have finished the install of this today but i am going to change the shifter housing while it is apart. Mine is still intact but i have a like new one sitting here and i dont want to have to take this car apart again once i put it back down on the ground ps. while i was under the car i noticed a leak of the rear caliper on the car so had to replace the washers on it. Turns out the brake fluid got on the rebuilder paint job and as brake fluid does, it softened the paint and caused a leak. The leak syphoned the entire brake system so had to bleed that out as well. LOL, this car must want a break from daily driver use. Don't worry 99 s/r once i am done fixing you i will fix the white 98 to use as a daily or i may keep this 02 i will probably get and do a 5speed swap on

put 99 trans back together. swapped out the shifter housing while under there. B&M is some work to get out when the o-rings are installed. Even had to replace the axle seal. So much work for the sound to still be there. The only things not changed were the pressure plate and the trans. Maybe one of these are causing the sound? The sound does go away when the car is in gear so it has to be one of these two things Oh well, it is back together right now so will take it for a drive and put it aside so i can finish up a couple other cars to make room for the 02 which will probably be had by the weekend

took car out for a drive to see how everything is only to find out the trans had to come off again. 1st pull went well out of first. Step on clutch pedal...... oopsie, now no clutch pedal. Drive car back home in 1st gear because was less than 1/4 mile away. Take trans off again only to find out all the friction surface came off the clutch disk. Replaced clutch kit again with new LUK kit. installed trans but for some reason clutch fork did not sit as it should. Had to take trans off again. Installed different new clutch kit, put trans back on and fork now sits in correct position. Unfortunately now has to also replace front brake hoses and i can't find the steel braided ones i have. I can only find one rear and one front right now. I have another set in the stock i keep handy so will finish up car tomorrow and hope for the best

IMHO its (the trans, ATX or MTX) always been the biggest issue with this platform...oh and rust.
I've blown my fair share of factory diffs (spider gears shredded plus once it bent and broke the pin that two of them rode on)
Once, IDK what it was, but I put something through the bellhousing (hole punched from inside out perfectly vertically) never did figure out WTF it was that went through there though because nothing was missing from anything when everything came out/apart, but something was for sure bouncing around in there because it dented up the whole inside of the bellhousing and the pressure place face. still have the bellhousing, and actually ran the clutch disc again years later after it sat around for years
I've broken the shift selector tab
I've broken shift forks
I thought i had a failed input shaft seal once but i think it was just the breather got stuck down so pressure built up and found the weakest seal to leak out of
thankfully these transmissions are easy to work on, MTX anyhow. I've never opened up an ATX but I have destroyed a good few when Silver1 was an ATX. Even ran a escort sedan ATX trans for a while and blew that up too.

yay, finally got around to replacing the brake hoses which i had noticed having a crack in each of them. unfortunately, the trans is still making a noise i don't like so i will be taking it off again, this time for replacement. I will figure it out later when i have the time and patience for it. Really getting tired of lifting it for install

but, the clear ones just looks so cool i finally got around to replacing the trans again yesterday. The car drives well and feels a lot better with a new clutch installed. I hope this one does not come apart because the grab on it when it engages feels real nice and firm. This car pulls strong once more with no more unusual noises. Whew, i was getting tired of taking this car apart. Now on to finishing up a lot of other things around the house and yard. Can't wait ps. also let someone else drive my car to see how he drives and to show him the difference in his car compared to mine. he was scared because the car makes a lot of noise and getting pulled back into the seat was new to him this darn little yellow car has been a lot of work at times but worth it

pulled silver1 bumper after work. pulled passenger headlight and reseated adjuster. reinstalled and readjusted (to the best of my ability) and the passenger side is still a bit low i just cant seem to get it any higher. idk. gonna drive it and maybe bring the driver side down a touch? idk. guess ill see if the beams are any better centered or not. i dont have any really flat and level places to do this properly lol
guess the wife can pick between regular or black housing when theyre delivered

Received my Xcal4, and discovered that the read strategy for Each tune determines the matrix for the tuning tables for each read strategy, the table constants are determined by the read strategy. Therefore without the read strategy for NGP0 the results of the NGP0 tune cannot be matched by simply loading the values into a different tune, because it has a unique tuning strategy.
I created a new tuning file combining RUQ0 with CWQ3 because they use the same read strategy.
