yay, fixed that head I had previously mentioned which was all banged up. I cleaned up most of the engine bay and prepared the block for the head install i installed the head but have to recall where i put the cam caps to put the cams back on. I did also install a new timing belt kit. Fingers crossed I have this thing put back together enough to drive it again by the end of the day. Hard part is done, just need to put all the little parts back on. This thing was taken apart poorly so i had to replace the intake and the wiring harness for it as well as the injectors and fuel rail. I have more wrong things done to it i have to fix but those should not slow me down too much

here is the head installed. this thing took some work. the guy who took it apart did a bad job keeping track of the parts. the alternator was missing from the car, the alternator bolts are missing, the throttle body bolts were missing, the intake bolts missing, timing plate on the side was awful and installed with wrong bolts, missing timing idler pulley bolt, missing timing tensioner pulley bolt, throttle body dirty af, valve cover missing bolts...... missing parts replacement always takes forever as i want to put it back as it belongs. Now i have to look for the correct alternator bolts as those are something that i dont think i have any spares of. I probably have at least one set but i have to go look. this car will be worth it when its done but getting there is going to be some more work. with any luck i should have it started by saturday because i need to source a battery for it too
ps. i had to replace the intake because the original had wrong bolts installed into it and i did not want to fix yet. the wiring for it was also messed up. Ill fix those things later but i mention it because now this car will use the later style pcv set up. the 98 style is better but i do have some 99-03 versions laying around so it wont be an issue

nice score on that $300 Z, evil! It's my buddy's but I'm giving it my treatment. He's already tracking down an X4 for tuning and after an SVTF header and contemplating trubendz 2.5 exhaust. Ive created a monster 😁 He ordered Amsoil for engine and trans and I'll be finishing up with my inspection today after work/tomorrow and ordering whatever else he's gonna need to get it road worthy. Oh I see you've got one up as well, and that one is pretty clean too.
Honestly though I keep finding them pretty cheap from eBay UK and sent him one of those links earlier this week.

It's a scorcher today, wasnt even 1000 and it was already over 100 in the shop.
Yesterday on the $300 ZX2 I replaced the shot vacuum lines then fired it up and it started making noise. Reminded me of excessive crankcase vacuum, opened oil cap when running and it sucked in air and stopped making noise. Found the valve cover filter/breather/separator whatever its called is blocked. I have at least two in the shop somewhere but couldnt find either lol. put a vacuum elbow in its place for now and all is good.
I finished my inspection today. Needs plugs and wires, front and rear motor mounts (will push for ES inserts), wiper blades, valve cover gasket and serp belt. Brakes are groovy and rusty but work quietly for now, inside doesnt have much time before squealer but were gonna let it ride then replace it all when its time. I also found the power steering leak, its a slow leak from the passenger side behind the inner tie rod.

gettle just dropped his old ZX2 chassis off down at my place and we tucked it up beside my expedition sitting to the side of the shop. i have the stocker breather if you need it. we might take you up on that, was gonna bother dareall but already asked him for some other parts. actually now that im thinking about it, we may not need that 98 housing because gettle has one he doesnt need on his old engine and we'll give him some $ for that its hot out oh and Silver1 IMRC seems to have failed internally, its just flapping around so yay

Swapped IMRC with the one from that SVTF I found in the junkyard, it works so yay
Opened the problematic IMRC that came out and found that the spring popped off and damaged the plastic cam it rides on so we'll see if thats even possible to fix or replace. if it didnt break I hear folks epoxy the spring in place so stuff like that doesnt happen :/
Flushed the coolant in the $300 ZX2, swapped 98 housing from Gettle's old engine (Dave - I texted you to see how much you want since you said you didn't need it and I forgot to verify when you were down here) then filled it up with fresh coolant and warmed up. All is well. Waiting for Amsoil and tune up parts now

yay, i changed out the thermostat housing on my daughter's gold car. It already had a 98 style on it but i installed a like new one for her with new thermostat just to be sure her car is all good this summer I did make her help and made her install the new trunk struts. She is all happy now that the trunk does not lower on her head now when she is getting into the trunk

I ordered and received replacements for the Ford Racing intake valve...had to use Ferrea valves...only one of eight FR valves was out of spec.
I delivered to the "head shop" so I have a replacement head in the works.
Thinking about taking the SR out today...

so i just made a post about getting the white car running again. After contemplating whether i should keep it or not I have decided that i should keep it as i want a white car to put my blue interior into. Due to this, this car is going to get prepped to go away i thought about putting blue interior into this car but it wont match as nice as it will into the white car. Besides that, i just did interior swap and put tan interior into it a little while back. The tan sport interior looks nice so it will suck not being able to enjoy that part. starting later today I'm going to be taking some things off and getting it to more resemble factory appearance

swapped out the front springs on the green 98. does not look too bad with cut coils on it also started troubleshooting the ac. got everything to work. now have to put new relay into the ccrm then find the leak it has. then i can move to the vacuum line issue so i can get the air to come through the dash vents

I got a PCM for Silver3 (thanks dareall!) in today, still gotta find an unlocked X4 for him though......
He picked Silver3 up from my place this weekend and has been driving and loving it, its tinted all the way around now and is going to an exhaust shop tomorrow because the exhaust was already replaced with a shitty undersized aftermarket "replacement" system when he bought it. He's going to get a 2.5in piping system built and will pick out a muffler and tip onsite. He's already talking about having the body work fixed as well, maybe some fun things with a wrap?
We're also getting things gathered to do an SVTF exhaust manifold swap for it as well

If not, it's an overkill, IMHO. 2-2.25" should be fine stock.

x2 on too big of an exhaust killing performance if no work done to car. i had one person who insisted on having a huge exhaust for his car so i put one on for him. He was so sad because it made his car slower

Yep on exhaust, the S/R is 2.25 Trubenz and 2001Black is 2.5 supported by CNC'd throttle body and bigger injectors.
I turned the key the Black and it started no problem, I put it in 1st and it wanted to leap out of the garage; I will be working on it's shifter today.

Brace yourselves, unpopular opinions incoming. I've done alot of things to ZX2s but making them slower has NEVER been one of them Thankfully this isn't facebook so we can have some logical discussions about this, lets dig in! So I'm going to have to disagree with the popular opinion here and state that I HIGHLY prefer 2.5in exhausts for MTX ZX2s and 2.25 for ATXs. I've ran the TruBendz 2.5 (no cat no res borla muffler) in a few different configurations over the years and in a few different ZX2s (all manuals) and have never experienced any losses, it just keeps getting better as you keep on going. Please check the "Not Evil"/NA forum on the site, I've uploaded my dyno from EvilZX2 (when NA years ago) that dynod 149/159 with no head work/cams and ZX2ner header and TruBendz 2.5. Please post dynos with Zs with 2.25in piping, I'd love to compare. Also, I don't agree that injectors are necessary for an NA upgrade. I'm running SVTF intake and exhaust manifolds in Silver1 and have yet to reach the limit of the factory injectors/fuel system. I think it was shadowen (on TZ years ago) who boosted to around 2PSI before the factory injectors/fuel system couldn't keep up. I do not have a Zetec with cams/head work (except for psychotuner's engine that I've not run yet) so I can't say for sure that a headwork/cammed Zetec wouldn't need injectors but for boltons I've yet to find it is necessary myself. I drive a ZX2 daily and watch the data on these things every day. All of mine have X4s and are tuned, I beat the shit out of them religiously and even with all the SVTF stuff in Silver1 I'm not near the injector limit from the data I see. I DID find the limit of the 42# injectors in EvilZX2 so I know what I'll be looking for. I've also got a few sets of SVTF injectors and my old lightning 42# injectors that came out of TheEvilZX2 for when this upgrade is actually necessary. NOW all that being said, I DID used to run with mustang "fat" 19# injectors when EvilZX2 was NA and honestly I don't think it made a real difference. May have been placebo but I did think that torque at tip-in was stronger but didn't notice any difference in seat-of-the-pants when WOT. I got off topic but basically for bolt ons (SVTF IM included) I've not seen injectors necessary yet. (trust me I wanted to slap the SVTF injectors in and just retune and call it a day but I wanted to SEE when they were necessary) I'd imagine a high compression NA build or heavy headwork/cams would need injectors, so if anyone has a headwork/cammed head they'd like to send my way I'd be glad to test it out! Spartan wideband is in Silver1 and dataloggable, plus it could probably use a headgasket at 282k miles! Third unpopular opinion: Larger TB is certainly not needed either. Sure it helps...a little bit...and yes every bit counts. Richard Holdner has it dyno proven in the Focus Builder's handbook that its only a few HP on an NA Zetec, and this was gains mostly up near redline on a somewhat extensive headwork and cammed focus Zetec, IIRC this was tested with a 65mm TB. The JSRC absolutely LOVES a big TB and showed gains everywhere but a turbo couldn't care less and it made almost no difference. I still advocate for bored and or ported throttle bodies tho, and as Krux has said on here before MaxBore.com did a great job on the one I had him do (plus I have two other hand ported ZX2 throttle bodies) Lets see some dynos! Lets get a discussion going! This is good stuff!

woot, got the tach working today on the green car also fixed the lights on the cluster while i was at it since i had the cluster out i decided to test the fuel gauge. Good thing i did because it was stuck in the middle and when i got it to move it went down to empty. This explains why the car was starting the way it was, low gas

drove the green car the other day only to end up with the service engine soon light turns out i have the issue with the fuel gauge was due to the sending unit. Got the code p0460. Mostly easy fix, just replace the fuel pump. Thankfully, i bought a few of them a couple month ago So no real issue here. Also got the code which is most likely the IAC. p1506 should remedy itself with cleaning the IAC or replace with a good one i have laying around Still have to fix the ac on this car but i will wait until i get these codes gone first fingers crossed these two codes are as easy as i think they will be

changed out the fuel pump today on the green car. This should take care of the code for that sending unit.
the p1506 did not get fixed with the replacement of the IAC. The idle is still a little high. I think the issue is related to the vacuum source for the vents. I'll check on that tomorrow as the rabbits or squirrels may have eaten it while they were under there on their path of destruction. Those little critters ate my spark plug wires before a couple times and also ate the wiring for the intake so it is likely they ate more including the hoses for the windshield wiper washers.
