Just FYI, if you like lowering springs on your ZX2 and you want struts to go with them, KYB has wrapped up manufacturing for one part number and the rest will follow. If you want some and you can find them, you should probably get them now. I had a really hard time finding any struts at all that have the ~2" less travel. Looks like my choice is now between coilovers and stock suspension

I see....Well get the rears while you still can? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I've got a set of KYB excel Gs I bought and hacked up to run the "coilover" sleeves. Didnt care for the feel of it with the springs I was playing around with so I went Feal 441+ in the turbo car.
I ran with Progress springs on S/R struts for so long then coilovers in the turbo car, the dailys have factory loaded shocks (FCS and Gabriel)
What are you running spring wise? Is it that much of a difference with factory struts and whatever springs? Height different or ride different?

I started with stock struts and springs, but obviously I wanted a little tighter steering and stopping. The dive under braking sucked. I went with H&R springs and KYB Excel G struts and an Escort GT sway bar. It rode okay, but I'm getting tired of the sharp hits on small bumps, and after 100k miles, it's probably time to replace the struts.
The best thing about the stock springs/struts is that the low spring rate and longer travel makes the first couple inches of travel absorb small bumps very well. The KYB Excel G struts and the Monroe OESpectrum (also obsolete) struts are both about 2 inches shorter overall than the stock Motorcraft struts. From my research tells me that the KYB struts are built for a stiffer spring. They apparently increased compression and rebound damping. There's only so much you can do with no valving or adjustability on struts, so they ride a bit stiff all around.
I could go back to stock and have a smooth ride, buy the Feals, or build my own strut assembly to put the H&Rs on to tune the suspension. I really like the idea of the Feals because they seem a lot more like motorcycle suspension. Even my 2004 XR650L can be made to ride really nice with some suspension tuning. The only factor now is cost. A set of stock struts for the zx2 is extremely cheap. I guess another factor would be how long until there are no more quality suspension components of any kind for the zx2.
