lol, i was looking at the wasting time section and i saw this post i made about getting pwned with knowledge
i was on facebook just going over some stuff when i came across a noob having problems with his 98 4door he just got. This post was in an escort group with people who dont always give the correct responses and i think that was the case once more. It turns out he has a "gas is to lean" problem.
he got a lot of replies telling him that it was the intake, the intake manifold gaskets and a lot of other things. I literally just fixed this for another car this week and fixed another one with the same code earlier this month as well. Both instances the problem was due to a broken exhaust manifold
manifold is cracked up on top
and cracked all the way down to the collector
as you can see the manifold was leaking badly. It produced an exhaust smell and was causing the lean issue the car was experiencing. After replacement, the code went away.
this is where my pwnage comes in.... this noob makes the post and i ask for the actual code, not his description. He replies with "p0171."
transcript:
me: Post the actual code not your description. I just fixed this for someone this week and it was none of the fixes offered here
noob: p0171
me: then just about all the fixes are wrong. Your problem is likely a cracked exhaust manifold. This is Very common and easy to fix
here is what the top looked like - pic of exhaust
and what the front of it looked like - pic of exhaust
noob : if I remember right. You can run just about any car with out the exhaust manifold on there. That just helps with compression
me : lol, this is comedy gold right here but, okay, just do what everyone else is telling you to do
noob : running to lean would have nothing to do with what comes out of the engine. It has to do with what goes in.
me : if you knew as much then this post would not exist. I literally fixed this same issue the other day. So you can chase all the other fixes if you want. That's up to you
noob : maybe your mistaken with an intake manifold which yes would be a problem. But I've been looking at a lot of stuff in this little engine bay and can guarantee that it's not the exhaust manifold. Go take it off your car and turn it on
me : haha, you had to double down. lol, good luck
2fast 2furious gif - better use those bus tokens partner
noob: have an extra car. Don't need a bus pass.
me: tokyo drift gif - okay then were done here
